The Nineties is making a (nostalgic) comeback in my life lately. These are my rocking chair stories, OEMers.
1) El Nino. My, but it is a sweltering and windy springtime here. Not great for the seals dying in the warmed-up oceans, for agriculture and for people suffering from heat exhaustion, but this kind of weather whisks me back to good memories of the late nineties. A life without cellphones, and a life with the dependable windows 3.1. I remember using my 28.8 modem to get on the OEM forum - back in those days when OEM was still on the official XFiles board and we had not rebelled into independence - in the late afternoon once my homework was (kinda) done, only to be interrupted by violent thunderstorms which broke the heat of the day. Oh the nineties; when my only responsibility was to balance the time needs of school and the forum
2) The third and final season of Millennium. It had never aired in my country, and for some reason I had not tracked it down - until it presented itself to me recently in the video store (yes, I still visit actual stores, even though they're closing down fast). It is something special, watching "new" (for me) episodes of a television show I secretly loved more than TXF (but would never admit in public of course; I had an established reputation as a phile to uphold). So many years later, MLM remains riveting television: nothing like the formulaic paint-by-numbers cop shows on tv these days. MLM is ageless, thought-provoking, and able to stop me in my tracks. MLM is not a show to binge-watch as is the fashion these days with the candy floss on television; instead I am savouring every episode. Oh the nineties; it was a golden age of television.
3) During a long-overdue spring clean, I found a piece of paper with the last OEM number written on it. So welcome to our new (silent) users, wiseoldelf and nigri. We don't know who you are, and how you found the OEM, but feel free to post about all things old and new episodes, and we may just give you an OEM number and title
4) The X-Files revival. There are certainly die-hard philes out there (and maybe in here). Those who recognise - nay accept - everything post-season 7 and that waste-of-celluloid second movie as real "Files". Those who don't judge the latter-day writers, their lacklustre storylines, and the wanna-be actors who tried to replace our heroes. Then there are more judgemental (discerning?), more traumatised philes like me; purists who have chosen a point in time (season 7 maybe) and don't want to recognise anything thereafter as being worthy of the genius of TXF that we had first encountered.
We don't know for sure what 24 Jan 2016 will bring us. Will it be more forgettable Reyes & Doggett blasphemy? Or will it hark back to the well-researched style that made the nineties so special? For now all we have to go on is the trailer, and it isn't giving up any secrets.

Regardless, 24 Jan 2016 is marked on our calendars. We are revived maniacs, people!
